We do not want to have to guess student sizes. All BYBO students will receive a t-shirt which we will also wear for our performances!

NO SECTIONALS – 12/18

Due to numerous scheduling conflicts we will not be able to hold sectionals on Wednesday, December 18th. We will reconvene on January 8th for a full rehearsal! Please practice over the break and PLEASE be sure to attend our next meeting on January 8th!

We have new music online for band and strings – please practice and check out the practice videos!

Concert Fun!

The trip to NJCU and BHS this past week were both big hits with all of the students involved. We hope everyone can attend our next concert trip which will be to Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in early May – more details on that in January!

We hope that everyone has a happy and safe holiday – see you all in the New Year!

BYBO Calendar & Student Resources

All parents and students should be aware of our Calendar page and widget on our homepage. Please refer to this schedule each month for updates! We also have a Student Practice Resources page with links to shared Google Drive folders that have extra parts of our repertoire and PRACTICE VIDEOS. Each instrument has its own video that can be slowed down and used for practice purposes. You’ll hear your part and the other parts of the ensemble as you play! See Mr. Puchinsky or Ms. Barrett for the password.

BYBO November Updates!

E-Mails & Our Blog!

talhakhalil007 / Pixabay

We just sent an email to all members’ parents & guardians to remind them about our Tuesday sectionals this week (October 29th), and to complete the BYBO permission and media release forms. We also ask ALL members – parents, guardians, and students, to subscribe to our blog! We will not always send email reminders! All members should be subscribed to the blog so they can receive emails from our blog as we post our monthly updates and weekly announcements.

Sectionals

We will be starting sectionals every other week starting the last week of October. SECTIONALS allow us to work with individuals and small groups to help them learn the skills necessary to perform our repertoire. In sectionals we teach parts and focus on instrument sections. At rehearsals we work on putting the different ensemble sections together.

Please check the calendar online to see what nights we will rehearse and what nights we will have sectionals. On sectional nights students will only have to attend one 45 minute session as follows:

  • 6:00-6:45 PM Brass & Woodwinds
  • 6:45-7:30 PM Strings
  • 7:30-8:15 PM Percussion

November Schedule

Starting the last week of October and all of November we will be meeting on Tuesday evenings. Here is the schedule for November:

  • Tuesday October 29th – Sectionals
  • Week of November 4-8 NO MEETING – Schools will be closed for the fall break!
  • Tuesday November 12th – Sectionals
  • Tuesday November 19th – Rehearsal
  • Tuesday November 26th – Sectionals – Happy Thanksgiving!

BYBO Permission Forms

We sent home BYBO Permission and Media Release forms last week. Please sign them and return them ASAP. There was a mistake on the first copies we sent out that talked about a BYBO Schoology page – we stopped using Schoology in order to better accommodate students who are not in Bayonne public schools and now use this blog instead. The forms have been updated to reflect these changes. If you signed and returned the old forms – no worries! Just make sure you subscribe to this blog!

You can download the permission forms from the links below!

Welcome Back!

We’d like to welcome back all of our BYBO members and parents back to another school year and another BYBO concert season! Both Ms. Barrett and I have had a busy September, with both of us having new assignments, and recruitment for our school bands, but we are excited and ready to have our first rehearsal this Wednesday at 6:00 PM!

As we discussed last year, we will not be doing a winter concert this year. Instead we are planning to practice throughout the winter and have a series of springtime performances that will include Band Day at BHS, our own Spring Concert on Wednesday April 9, 2025, and a series of other performances in the spring.

FOR ALL PAST MEMBERS – if you are planning on returning to BYBO this year, PLEASE have your parents help you complete our online form on our contact us page.

FOR ALL NEW MEMBERS – you should have received a welcome email to let you know about entering Midtown and our rehearsal times – 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday 10/16. If you have any questions – please email Mr. Puchinsky or Ms. Barrett.

Please be ready to make some music on Wednesday 10/16! We’ll be handing out some possible repertoire selections, but mostly we’ll be playing many different things so that we can see what our new members can do so that we can choose appropriate music for everyone.

Spring Concert News

Rehearsal Review

Last nights rehearsal was amazing! We were missing a few students due to other obligations, but the students that attended sounded amazing! Students worked through several sections of Robopocalypse with Mr. Puchinsky and Dragon Lord with Ms. Barrett. Climbing the Horizon and Colliding Visions are ready to go! The orchestra is also performing really well, playing an entire three movement suite titled Giant Suite,  and a piece called Abstraction. Some of the strings are also preparing to perform in the upcoming recital at the Bayonne Public Library on June 12th.

Concert Week

Dress Rehearsal – This week we are hoping to have everyone on board at Wednesday’s (5/22) dress rehearsal . We will be on stage at Midtown Community School. Rehearsal  starts at 5:45 PM – students should first report to the Band Room. We want to RECORD everything and run through the entire show.

Concert Night – the concert will begin at Midtown Community school at 6:00 PM, but students should arrive by 5:15 PM and report to the band room. Tickets are $5 per adult (kids free) and the program will be online.

There was a handout regarding the 2024 BYBO Spring Concert, please click the link if you missed it! It includes ticket info and the dress code for the performers for the 23rd.

G & T Chamber Recital

Mr. Puchinsky, Ms. Barrett and the Midtown choral director Mrs. Fenimore will be hosting a chamber recital for their students on June 12th at 6:00 PM at the Bayonne Public Library that will also include some students from the Bayonne Youth Band & Orchestra. Admission will be free and it is open to the public!

Weekly Announcement May 6-12, 2024

Rehearsal Notes!

Last week’s rehearsal went very well! The concert for May 23rd is shaping up to be an excellent one! For this week we’d like to see all PERCUSSION students one hour earlier for a sectional (at 5:00 PM) before the regular rehearsal starts at 6:00 PM. All other band and orchestra members should arrive on time at 6:00 PM.

The percussion section need to hammer out a few issues with Robopocalypse and Dragon Lord, so please EVERYONE needs to be there for the sectional!

June Recital

We will be holding a solo and small ensemble recital on June 12th! Many of our BYBO students are already working on a solo or in a small ensemble. Not all members will perform in this recital as there will also be students from Midtown and Ms. Barret’s school. the recital will be at the Bayonne Public Library on June 12th!

Fund Raising

Only ONE student has returned their fund raising packet so far. We are asking everyone to help out and sell at least one advertisement and a few Boosters. All of this money will go towards funding our ensemble for next season! Please have your fundraising in by Wednesday May 15th!

Rehearsal 4/24

Rehearsal Schedule for 4/24

We will be having rehearsal on Wednesday 4/24, but we’ll be trying out a NEW schedule. Rather than having two rehearsals for the entire evening we will be have the rehearsals back-to-back, both in the band room. Please see the schedule below:

  • 5:45 to 7:00 PM – STRING ORCHESTRA
  • 7:00 to 8:30 PM – CONCERT BAND

Please arrive on time, and message us if your child cannot attend.

BYBO Fundraising

We are still running the annual concert program fundraiser, selling advertisements and boosters which will appear in our spring concert program. All monies will go to support the BYBO and future trips for the fall of 2024.

Band Day Success – This Week’s Schedule

Band Day 2024

Our first Band Day with the BHS Band and Choirs was a great success! We already have 2 new members at the BYBO and Mrs. Herskowitz was very pleased with the students’ reactions to the BHS Ensembles. We will be planning to do this again next year, but with an earlier date so she can meet 8th grade students before they sign up for their high school classes.

The BYBO only performed two pieces but we did an excellent job! We’re hoping that by doing this every year we reach more students and encourage more kids to join our band!

This Week!

We have sectionals this week – the schedule is on the blog calendar! Please check it out! We’re also revamping the string lessons again into three groups as follows:

Group 1:

  • Bella L.
  • Kaylee I.
  • Mariam Abe.

Group 2:

  • Jenna N.
  • Janani S.
  • Julie S.
  • Clara M.
  • Haya B.

Group 3:

  • Stella B.
  • Danielle C.
  • Angella C.
  • Angelina K.
  • Mariam Abd.
  • Sophia P.

Fund Raising Deadlines

We are still raising money for the BYBO! Even though we are not going on the June trip, we will be raising money for our ensemble needs (music, instruments, etc.) and we do plan to run a trip to a concert or show at the beginning of next year to kick of the season. We are asking that all members attempt to do at least a little fundraising – a few boosters and/or one or two ads for our program.

Since all of this must be in the program for our spring concert on May 23rd, we are asking that all members have their boosters/ads in no later than Wednesday, May 15th.
